Cyril Sloan was born in Palgrave, Ontario but grew up in Toronto, attending Riverdale Collegiate before entering UTS. After graduating, he joined the Canadian Officers’ Training Corps and went overseas in June 1916, where he joined the Royal Flying Corps, training in various locations throughout England and Scotland. He served in France until May 1917, when he was reported missing; it was learned the following month that he had died in a German Field Hospital. He is buried in Flesquieres Hill Military Cemetery in France, along with his fellow UTS student Joseph Russell Aikins.
